Our Story

A Lifelong Passion for Wildlife

Founded by Carmen Santucci, The Herpetarium is more than a rescue center — it's a sanctuary born from a lifetime of love for animals and a deep commitment to protecting Florida's precious ecosystem.

Meet the Founder

Hi, I'm Carmen Santucci

I've been an animal and reptile lover all of my life. What started as a childhood fascination with Florida's incredible wildlife has grown into my life's purpose.

Growing up in Florida, I was surrounded by an incredible diversity of wildlife — from the majestic sea turtles on our beaches to the exotic reptiles in our wetlands. While other kids played video games, I was outside learning about snakes, turtles, and every creature I could find.

That passion never faded. It only grew stronger as I witnessed the challenges facing Florida's unique ecosystem — habitat loss, invasive species, and animals in need of rescue. I knew I had to do something about it.

That's why I founded The Herpetarium. It's not just a rescue center — it's my dream realized. A place where injured and displaced animals get a second chance, where our community learns to appreciate and protect wildlife, and where we actively work to preserve Florida's natural heritage for future generations.

"Every animal deserves a chance. Every person deserves to experience the wonder of wildlife. That's what drives me every single day."

— Carmen Santucci
